Picking Rules

Picking Rules: Picking rules are user-defined set of criteria to define the priorities which Order Management uses when picking items out of finished goods inventory to ship to customer.

Steps to create picking rules

First create an Item in Item Master. Navigate to

Items > Master Items


Give details as shown below



Now Define Revisions for this Item.


Define Picking Rules. Navigate to Setup > Rules > Picking

Give details as shown below



The Setups in above shown form means that Subinventory will be given highest priority & within Subinventories, priorities will be defined in Subinventory form (we’ll see that as well.) In case, priorities are not defined here then it will be based on the order in which subinventories are created. Same is for Lot, Revision & Locator

Save the record. Once the record is saved, Enabled check box will be enabled. Check it & Click on Assignment Tab.



In this form we can decide various selection criteria. We’ll be restricting ourselves to just Item. Click on Enabled Check box & save the record.

Go to Tools > Regenerate Rule

Before creating Transactions, we’ll set priorities in subinventory

Navigate to Setup > Organizations > Subinventories

Give Picking order as shown below



Here we’ll create an additional Staging subinventory which we’ll use during Move Order Transactions



Save the record

Now create transactions for this item

Navigate to Transactions > Miscellaneous Transactions



Click on Transaction Lines

Give details as shown below











Save the record

Now create a Move Order Transaction

Navigate to Move Orders > Move Orders

Give details as shown below


Click on Approve.

Now Navigate to Move Orders > Transact Move Orders

Check the Select Checkbox


& click on Allocate

Click on View/Update Allocation



Neglect the order in which lines appear here.

We can conclude following from the above form

1.)   Items were allocated first from Stores 2, in which 5 items were picked from Lot3 & 15 from Lot4 (Total 20).
2.)   Then Items were picked from Stores 2, Same Locator, but with different revision (I have defined it earlier & not shown in the screen shots above) (Total 20).
3.)   40 Items were picked from Same subinventory but with different locator (Total 40)
4.)   Remaining 10 items were then picked from subinventory 1 (Total 10).


Click on Transact & your transaction with Newly defined Picking rules is done

    long) so I guess I'll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I'm thoroughly enjoying your blog.
    I too am an aspiring blog writer but I'm still new to everything.
    Do you have any suggestions for rookie blog writers? I'd certainly appreciate it.

  3. Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your articles?
    I mean, what you say is fundamental and everything. But think about if you added some great visuals or videos to give your posts more, "pop"!
    Your content is excellent but with images and
    clips, this site could certainly be one of the most beneficial in its field.
