Locator Control

Locator Controls: Locator controls are used to divide sub inventories into row, rack & bins in order to locate an item easily. It is a flex field which can be customized as per the business requirements.

Locators can be controlled at three levels

1.)   Organization
2.)   Inventory
3.)   Items

Organization will be given highest precedence followed by Inventory which is followed by Item

Following options are available at each level

Organization

1.)   Dynamic Entry Allowed
2.)   Pre Specified Only
3.)   Determined at sub inventory level

Inventory

1.)   Dynamic Entry
2.)   Prespecified
3.)   Item Level Control

Item

1.)   No Control
2.)   Dynamic Entry
3.)   Prespecified

Note: Locators should be unique at organization level
We can not create locator control for organizations in which items or transactions already exists

Change organization to the one in which no items exist. In our case we will make use of Master organization (Hyderabad Organization), as this is the only one where there are no transactions

Navigate to Setup > Organizations > Parameters

Give Locator Control as Dynamic entry allowed

As VSH is our Master organization so we do not have any subinventories in it. We need to define subinventories for it.

Navigate to Setup > Organizations > Subinventories

Now define some Locators so that we can make use of them in future

Navigate to Setup > Organizations > Stock Locators

Click on New & give details as shown below

Next is to define an item in Item Master

Navigate to Items > Master Items

Give Locator control as Prespecified

Now we need to create transactions for this item

Navigate to Transactions > Miscellaneous Transactions

Click on Transaction Lines

Give Details as shown below

For Locator, Give any dynamic values (As at organization Level we have given Dynamic Entry allowed)

Now change locator control to Prespecified only

Navigate to Setup > Organizations > Parameters

Change Locator Control as Prespecified only

Navigate again to Transactions > Miscellaneous Transaction

Click on Transaction Lines

Give item details & try to give any locator other than the pre specified values & you will get following error

So give existing combination

& save the record

This is how the controls at Organization level works. In order to check the controls at Sub inventory level. Change Locator Control to be ‘Determined at Sub Inventory Level’

Now Navigate to Setup > Organizations > Subinventories

Give details as shown below

In order to check this functionality, we will create a new item

Navigate to Items > Master Items & create a new item. Give Locator Control as Dynamic Entry

Navigate to Transactions > Miscellaneous Transactions

Click on Transaction Lines

Give details as shown below

From the above shown form, we can easily conclude that Locators can be controlled at Organization, Sub Inventory or at Item Level

Restricting Items on Subinventories or Locators

Create a new item in Item Master. Navigate to Items > Master Item

Give Locator Control as Prespecified & check the Restrict Subinventories & Restrict Locators Checkbox.

Now navigate to Setup > Organizations > Subinventories

Click on Item / Subinventory tab

Give details as shown below

Now Navigate to Transaction > Miscellaneous Transaction

Click on Transaction Lines

Give Item Name & Give % in Subinventory & Locator field & these fields will be automatically populated

This shows that this item is restricted to only the combination of this subinventory & locator.
