Category Sets:
Category Sets are used to categorize items in used in
different functional areas as per the functional requirements
Category Sets can be used in planning methods, picking
rules, defining buyers, ASL, sourcing rules, Price List, shipping activities,
approval adjustments, modifiers, counting etc.
Start with defining item in item master. Navigate to Items
> Master Items
As soon we assign some parameters in any of the above tab,
we can see that some categories are assigned by default. Like in Inventory tab,
check the Inventory Item check box, save the record & then go to Tools >
Categories
We can see that a category NEW.MISC has been assigned to the
item. Similarly when we assign some parameters in Purchasing Tab, we can see
that some more categories are assigned to the item
& so on.
In order to define category sets for Inventory, Navigate to Setups
> Flexfields > Key > Segments
Add a row & give details as shown below
Now click on Segments Tab & give details as
shown below
Click on Value Set for the first item category. Give details
as shown below
Similarly create a value set for 2nd field also.
This value set will be dependent on first value set
Give details as shown below
Here validation type is Dependent. Now click on Edit
Information. Give details as shown below
Add value set names in the Segment Summary form
Navigate to Flexfields > Key > Values
Give details as shown below & click on Find
Give details as
Save the record & again open the form with different
search criteria
Provide the value set values as shown below
Next is to define Category codes. For defining that Navigate
to Setup > Items > Category > Category Codes & click on New
Give details as shown below
& then navigate to Setup > Items >
Category > Category Sets
& click on Assign
In Assign form, we need to assign all items in all
organizations which is not possible here. As we have not assigned all items, so
the category codes won’t be defaulted but still we can use them manually
In case we are able to assign all items then next step is to
Navigate to Setup > Items > Categories > Default Category Sets
And assign Category Set. But as we have not assigned all
items so we’ll get an error saying
But still we can check the functionality. For that create an
item in Item Master, go to Inventory tab & enable Inventory Item
Go to Tools > Categories
